Lets Go Dolphins

Shut Your Mouth Porter!

Normally I am all in favor of little healthy trash talking, it is typical in sports and is done all in good fun most of the time. However, there are times when players need to just keep their mouths shut, don’t say anything just shut up. Joey Porter could use a lesson in timing when it comes to trash talk. Porter is famous for his interesting remarks in the weeks before games, he started this in his younger days with the Pittsburgh Steelers and has brought his mouth to the south when he joined the Dolphins.

Thursday morning Porter had some interesting comments regarding this weekends game in Foxboro, Massachussetts against the New England Patriots. Regarding Matt Cassel starting for the Patriots Porter had the following to say, “If it’s not Tom Brady, it shouldn’t be that hard…I’m looking forward to going up and playing this guy and hopefully we can do whatever it takes to get our first victory. We’re going to come after the guy. I don’t want to say something that’ll come back to bite me. It’ll be good to go out and get our first victory.”

Are you kidding me Porter? Yes, Matt Cassel is no Tom Brady, but the Patriots are the Patriots and whether or not the Dolphins are able to surprise the Patriots and beat them, they are still a class above you. Porter is in his 2nd season with the Dolphins, during the course of that time the Dolphins are 1-17 and the Patriots are 18-0. Shut your mouth Porter! Fine, Brady was around for all of last year, you want to compare this year instead? The Patriots are 2-0 and the Dolphins are 0-2. Cassel performed well enough to defeat the New York Jets last week, a team the Dolphins couldn’t stop the first week of the season. Porter and the Dolphins meanwhile last week were destroyed by Kurt “Old Man’ Warner and the hapless for decades Arizona Cardinals.

In the end Porter’s comments were not that inflammatory and he didn’t really GUARANTEE anything. However, in the NFL these days teams look for anything to give themselves an advantage. Almost anything the media quotes will end up as bulletin board material. The Patriots used the shame of “spygate” last year to absolutely DESTROY every team they faced. A message to Porter, inflammatory or not your comments were stupid. Since joining the Dolphins you and that “defense” (if you can call it one) are 1-17, so SHUT YOUR MOUTH! If you beat the Patriots on Sunday, then all is well, for now. However, until this season is over, the Dolphins are still the 1-15 team of last year and the trash talk should be kept to a minimum.

You know, I realize Matt Cassel isn't nearly as good as Tom Brady and never
will be. However, before Porter went and opened his mouth, he should have
looked at it in plain sight. The Dolphins lost, at home, to the Jets. The
following week, the Jets, also at home, lost to Matt Cassel and the
Patriots. Plain and simple, the Dolphins have no chance. Now watch, now
amazingly Cassel will be Brady-like and toss for about 300 yards and 4 tds.
Porter has always talked trash, and rarely ever backed it up. Plain and
simple, even minus Brady, the Fins are nowhere near the Patriots. 0-3, here
    we come!
